ABOUT

Camilo Martinez (b. 1978, Barranquilla, Colombia) is a Miami-based Colombian-American artist whose work operates within pop surrealism and narrative figuration. His paintings construct symbolic environments where recurring characters—most notably Joe Hueso and the Troopertinas—navigate themes of identity, masking, and psychological transformation.

Drawing from Caribbean culture, music, and personal history, Martinez builds layered compositions that merge playful iconography with emotionally charged content. His visual language juxtaposes bold color, cartoon-derived forms, and archetypal symbols, creating scenes that oscillate between the absurd and the introspective. Beneath their surface, these works examine burnout, inner conflict, and the reconstruction of the self.

Martinez’s practice extends beyond painting into murals, installations, and music, reinforcing a multidisciplinary approach to storytelling. His work has been exhibited in galleries and art fairs across the United States, particularly in Miami, where he maintains an active studio. Through an evolving body of work, Martinez positions each piece as part of a larger narrative system—an ongoing exploration of healing, resilience, and the search for meaning through creation.
