ABOUT
Camilo Martinez
I am Camilo Martinez, a Colombian expressionist, drawing from a well of deep emotion and resilience. Each piece of my art and music is a vivid reflection of my journey—a narrative shaped by passion, heartbreak, healing, and growth. Through my work, I aim to connect with others on a soul-deep level, sharing the transformative power of art and music to inspire, heal, and reveal the beauty within struggle.
Self-Taught Mastery…
A Creative Journey
My journey has been one of constant learning and exploration. I’m self-taught in nearly everything I do—from my early days learning bass as a teenager to developing skills in drawing, painting, designing, coding, video editing, animation, marketing, e-commerce development, and website design.
Along the way, I’ve worn many hats, including touring as a bass player for Sony Colombia and EMI label artists. My path has taken me across Colombia and beyond, working on diverse projects—from the music industry in Bogotá to launching major e-commerce platforms like PriceSmart, expanding into over 14 countries across Central and South America from Miami headquarters.
Through these experiences, I’ve continuously honed my creative and technical abilities, always pushing myself to grow as both an artist and a professional.
Music in My Blood…
A Lifelong Love Affair
Music has always been in my blood. As a child, I found myself drawn to the rhythm of life, first through singing in my school band, and then through my deep love for the bass. At 13, I made my first trade—a collection of CDs for my first bass guitar, a Peavey Fury. That day, a new journey began.
But it wasn’t an easy one. I taught myself how to play in secret, hiding my bass from my family, who at the moment I felt could not understand my passion for music. they saw music as a world of chaos and temptations, but for me, it was an escape, a way to express what words could not.
Soon, I formed my first band, and with the help of friends, I began learning about notes and scales. Music became a central part of my life, a force that has never left my side.
Over the years, my musical journey has taken me through various bands, each one shaping me as both an artist and a musician. Some of the bands that have been part of this journey include Sysmo, Necrosis, Neivirus, Madresanta, Micosonica, 69 Nombres, Pako Yunke, Los De Adentro, Rocksito, Sensational Saturdays, and my current band Pink Foot Goliath (Heavy Rock Band - Miami, FL). Each project has allowed me to deepen my passion for music, while also expanding my technique and compositional skills.
The Bands and the Beat…
My Journey Through Music
Madresanta. Miche Rock Festival . Barranquilla, Colombia. 1999
Los De Adentro. Rock al Parque. Bogota, Colombia. 2006
Rocksito. Promotional Tour. Bogota, Colombia. 2009
A defining moment in my career followed my three-year collaboration with Los De Adentro. When that chapter concluded, we took on the challenge of crafting a debut album from our Rocksito catalog, recording 11 tracks at Audiovisión Studios in Bogotá. With mixing by Rob Colby and mastering in Argentina, our work achieved a polished, professional sound. Signed by EMI and managed by Camilo Pombo, our single Para no olvidarte received significant airplay on major Colombian stations like Radioactiva and La Mega, marking an exciting milestone in my musical journey.
Although Rocksito's journey came to a pause, those years remain a powerful source of inspiration for my passion for music. The resilience we showed and the deep connections we forged with audiences in Colombia, particularly in Bogotá and Barranquilla, continue to inspire me. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to music, fueling my creative pursuits with unwavering energy and dedication.
Freelance Design and Web Development…
Crafting Digital Experiences for Artists and Brands
After completing my business degree at Universidad del Norte in Colombia, I ventured into freelance design, specializing in creating interactive websites for musicians, record labels, and businesses. I focused on building secure platforms for music downloads and promotional campaigns that bridged the gap between technology and music.
I had the privilege of working with major record labels and renowned artists, including Sony Music, EMI, BMG, and artists like Los De Adentro, Rocksito, Naty Botero, Fanny Lu, Maia, Sin Ánimo de Lucro, Gustavo Cerati, Charlie Zaa, and Juliana Barrios.
Beyond the music industry, I developed e-commerce platforms for brands and renown Designers such as Francesca Miranda, Komodo Jewelry, and Mardach Beachwear, serving clients in both Colombia and the U.S.
Freelancing allowed me to refine my skills in web development and e-commerce, while blending creativity with technology to provide innovative digital solutions.
BAQ CrossFit, Fatherhood…
Building Dreams from the Ground Up
In the early 2011s, I became a father just a year after migrated with my family from Bogota to Barranquilla. During this time, I opened BAQ CrossFit the first certified CrossFit box in barranquilla, a space where physical strength and mental endurance came together. Life was a balancing act—fatherhood, entrepreneurship, and my unyielding passion for creativity.
But while I was building my business and raising my family, music and art never left my heart. It always found a way to surface, even in the busiest of times.
Climbing the Corporate Ladder…
The Cost of Success
In 2013, after moving to Miami, I transitioned from entrepreneurship to the corporate world, climbing the ladder from web design to leading UI/UX product development. I managed cross-country teams and was instrumental in launching PriceSmart’s e-commerce platform during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Though I was thriving professionally, the relentless demands of the corporate world began to take their toll. My hands, once my tools for creating both art and music, began to ache. Burnout crept in, and despite my success, I felt myself losing touch with my creative core.
Burnout and Loss…
A Fire That Changed Everything
In 2021, with no support from the company, I was forced to leave my corporate job and seek solace once again through art, hoping it would offer me the time and space to heal. I had reached a breaking point. After more than a year of questionable management decisions and ongoing deceit about the company’s future, burnout had reached a critical level, taking a profound toll on my mental and physical health. The constant uncertainty and lack of transparency drove me into a spiral of severe anxiety attacks and excruciating pain in my hands. My health was deteriorating rapidly, and I knew I couldn’t continue in that environment. I had to step away, desperate to heal and to find comfort in the steadying presence of art and family.
The fire was a devastating blow, taking from me the work that had been my lifeline through the darkest days of burnout. In the aftermath, depression took hold, and my marriage unraveled. It felt as though everything I had held onto was slipping away.
But the wounds ran deeper than I had realized, and they were about to grow. Just a month after leaving, tragedy struck—my studio caught fire, and I lost everything. Years of art, music, and creative work that had sustained me since 2018 vanished in an instant. Only one piece survived the flames: The Melted Trooper—a haunting reminder of all that was lost and the resilience that still flickered within me.
The Power of Art and Music…
Healing Through Creation
In the aftermath of loss, art became my lifeline. I poured everything I had left into my creations—both visual and musical—using art as a way to process the pain. I began to rebuild myself, step by step, piece by piece.
Art has always been my companion through life’s greatest challenges, and it remains the one constant that has helped me rise from the ashes of loss, rediscovering myself along the way.
“True to Yourself," celebrates the beauty of embracing individuality and pursuing one's dreams with unwavering determination.
