Camilo Martínez, also known as @funkydisonante, is a Colombian-American pop-surreal and expressionist artist whose work transforms personal struggle into bold, emotionally charged narratives. His visual universe blends childhood nostalgia, cartoon symbolism, and the raw texture of human experience, a fusion of vulnerability and rebellion expressed through color, music, and form.
From his signature Tales of Joe Hueso series to his rock-inspired Troopertinas and Big Eyes portraits, Martínez bridges painting, sound, and storytelling. His art explores mental health, resilience, and the rediscovery of light after burnout, revealing that healing itself can be a profound act of beauty.
ARTIST STATEMENT
“My work is born from ashes, from that instant when silence breaks and color returns. It speaks of the noise within, the healing that follows, and the honesty that art demands.”
After facing burnout, depression, and the loss of his studio to fire, Camilo Martínez turned to art as a path of recovery. Each brushstroke became an act of resistance, a way to rebuild meaning, reconnect with his family, and transform pain into light. His work reflects the struggle to heal from trauma and break generational cycles, using creation as both therapy and testimony.
Through layered compositions, symbolic storytelling, and expressive brushwork, Martínez reimagines pop culture and spirituality as mirrors for self-reflection. He embraces imperfection with sincerity, finding beauty in what is fractured, unfinished, or emotionally raw. His art is a dialogue between music, memory, and emotion, a search for balance where vulnerability becomes strength and color becomes truth.
